Why is India still facing a lots of poverty

Okay before we start off on this journey, lets make sure we are only stating facts and not hurting anyone's feelings. Because facts are sometimes hurtful but provide the true picture.

History

India is one of the most invaded places in the world throughout the recorded history. When you have too many invasions and fallen kingdoms every 100 - 150 years you lose stability. Your culture, history, knowledge and economy gets destroyed resoundingly every 100 years to be replaced with another one. This loss contributes to starvation, unemployment, dacoity and slavery. This was India from the times of Alexander the Great's to British in 1947.

The below image is just from the time of 1600 AD to 1947.

By the time India attained Independence in 1947, more than 570 princely states were added to the union. This is a huge number and this eventually formed the 7th largest country in the world. Along with these princely states, India also inherited thousands of other problems from the British. The British, kings and queens of India collectively chose to ignore poverty, famines and the state of their people.

The number of people who died due to famines in India is a staggering 6 million. And the worst part… These famines were unknown in India until the British arrived.

Some of the pictures below show the plight of Indians during these famines.

A simple search on Google on Famines in India produces these results -

My continuous rant about British bringing down India can be represented from the below graph. UK & India pretty much started off on the same lines. But look how UK’s GDP skyrocketed from 1750!

No matter who ruled India post independence, almost everyone contributed to the uplifting of this poverty. You can see the literacy rate below based on 2011 census.

The distribution of poverty is still massively prevalent in the northern states of Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Orissa, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. But this is way better than what India was in 1947.

India is getting better but still not there…

In short,

Invasions gave birth to famines.

Famines gave birth to poverty.

Poverty gave birth to illiteracy.

Illiteracy gave birth to casteism.

Casteism gave birth to dacoity.

Dacoity gave birth to corruption.

So this is a chain reaction and a compounded one. It would take at least another 20 years to eradicate poverty from India. But as I said, when you eradicate something, you are faced with a new problem. But the future of India looks extremely promising!
